How to Choose the Right Sunscreen for Your Home

New Zealand has one of the world's highest levels of UV light meaning we're all well-versed in the old slip, slop, slap whenever we're outside.

But just because we're used to protecting our skin from damaging rays, doesn't mean we're good at protecting our homes.

The same UV rays and heat which can cause us discomfort on the beach are also responsible for trouble around the home by fading our furniture and furnishings, and costing us a small fortune in home cooling systems.

Sunscreen roller blinds are a great addition to a home, can be a stylish way to add comfort to a sunny room and can save you heaps when it comes to keeping your home at the right temperature.

1) Reduce heat and glare

Curtains are an all-or-nothing option for your windows so that when they're opened so you can enjoy the view, you also get the often unwanted "bonus" of glare and heat.

Either combining curtains with a sunscreen roller blind or fitting sun screens doubled with other types of blind will allow you to enjoy the view but also cut back on the glare of the sun. The sunscreen roller blind does this by diffusing the light and blocking the majority of the heat.

2) Great choices

There are five options to choose from at NZ Blinds meaning there's always something to match your needs and decor:

The 100 percent polyester sunscreen works excellently as a combination with blackout blinds and can be used inside or out. It has a 5 percent openness factor, giving a 95 percent UV block.

The SW4510 is a weave which gives 10 percent openness and a 90 percent block and is flame retardant, greenguard accredited, low carbon footprint, and treated with Microban.

The new Dakota designer collection is an elegant 3000mm-wide jacquard screen offering texture and six contemporary colours.

Light-filtering blinds are decorative rather than protective but can be a stylish way to finish off a room and cut back the glare without ruining your views.

Customised sunscreen roller blinds give you the control over how your blinds fit into the decor for your home or business. You can customise the blind with an image of your choice making them perfect for company logos, cool designs for kids' rooms, or super-stylish centrepieces to a modern, elegant room.
